Something even as simple as washing your hands is forgotten or missed by many people these days and becomes even more important when in a healthcare environment. Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds or using an instant hand sanitizer is the best way of avoiding an infection.
Many healthcare workers spend a lot of time trying to make sure their facilities are clean and that they are practicing proper infection prevention practices. If you happen to see them, why not say thank you for helping to fight infection?
Have you ever been in the hospital or at the doctor's office and you don't happen to see your healthcare worker wash their hands. Sure, they may have done it outside the door, but it is in your power to protect your child and yourself by asking them to wash their hands. Why would that hurt? Surely is better than not knowing what they may have touched (even without knowing) on some door handle or other surface.
Also take time to read labels. Surface disinfectants typically kill germs with a proper contact time. It's not an "instant" thing, in most cases. Sure you are still cleaning but maybe leaving a surface wet for a little while might help spread infection.
My friends all make fun of me since I started my current job ten years ago, but if you sat through as many talks about infections and deaths and the doom of a pandemic outbreak you might think the same way.
